Rabat – The Inspector General of Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces (FAR), General Mohammed Berrid, paid a visit to Paris on Friday at the head of a large delegation.
The trip unfolded against a backdrop of ceremony and high-level talks, signaling the depth of the defense ties between the two countries.
General Berrid joined French and international officials in the courtyard of the renowned Hotel Les Invalides for the farewell to arms of General Thierry Burkhard.
The solemn ceremony, presided over by President Emmanuel Macron, brought together leading civilian and military figures from France and abroad.
Afterward, General Berrid held a meeting at the French Armed Forces Headquarters with Air Army General Fabien Mandon, who has just taken command as France’s Chief of the Armed Forces.
The two officers addressed the different aspects of bilateral military cooperation and voiced their determination to strengthen it further, the FAR said in a statement.
General Mandon, in a message shared on X, said the talks focused on “prospects in the field of bilateral cooperation” and welcomed the “convergence of views on the challenges of the strategic environment.”
The encounter came shortly after General Mandon’s appointment, giving early indication of his intention to continue the tradition of close defense dialogue between Rabat and Paris.
Last year, Morocco and France reaffirmed the strength of defense ties on all-levels during the 22nd session of the Joint Military Commission in Rabat.
The meeting brought together General Berrid and General Burkhard, who addressed ways to advance military cooperation and reviewed pressing security concerns.
The two countries share a long-standing defense cooperation rooted in historical and strategic links.
