Rabat – Real Madrid’s 2–1 win over Barcelona in El Clásico was overshadowed by a dramatic incident from Vinícius Júnior, who reacted furiously after being substituted in the 71st minute.
As his number appeared on the substitution board, the Brazilian forward looked shocked and shouted, “Me, coach?” while raising his hands in disbelief. Walking off the pitch, he reportedly yelled in Portuguese, “I’m leaving the team… it’s better if I go,” followed by an angry “F*** you all,” according to DAZN and Marca.
The decision to take him off came from head coach Xabi Alonso, who was seen trying to calm the situation. “Come on, Vini, please,” Alonso was heard saying.
Goalkeeping coach Luis Llopis followed Vinícius into the tunnel to speak with him privately. After a tense few minutes, Vinícius returned to the bench, looking frustrated but calmer.
In the post-match press conference, Alonso addressed the incident: “We’ll handle it internally. I’ll speak to him personally. These things happen in football, especially in emotional games like this.”
Vinícius’s reaction has sparked debate among fans and pundits. Some see it as passion, and others as disrespect. The 25-year-old has been a key player for Madrid, but this emotional outburst raises questions about his relationship with the new coach and his role in the squad.
Despite the drama, Real Madrid secured a crucial win with goals from Kylian Mbappé and Jude Bellingham, overturning Fermín López’s opener for Barcelona. The victory puts Madrid five points clear at the top of La Liga.
But for many, the main headline wasn’t the score; it was Vinicius’s incident in front of millions who were watching the game.
