Rabat – The Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi, has approved a series of exceptional promotions and social support measures following the tragic traffic accident that claimed the lives of four police officers on the outskirts of Sidi Ifni.

The tragedy took place on Saturday morning when a bus carrying members of Morocco’s mobile police unit overturned about 24 kilometers outside Sidi Ifni.

According to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the vehicle was transporting 44 officers assigned to a public order unit. The team had departed from Sidi Ifni and was en route to Agadir on an official mission to help secure a football tournament.

Authorities described the crash as a single-vehicle accident. Four officers died, while 26 others sustained injuries.

In an official decision issued today, the four officers who died in the line of duty were posthumously promoted to the rank of Police Inspector.

The promotions carry full administrative and financial effects, with all corresponding benefits to be granted to their rightful beneficiaries.

In addition, police officers who sustained serious injuries in the same accident have been granted exceptional step promotions, in accordance with the statutory provisions governing personnel of the DGSN.

Authorities have also extended full moral and financial assistance to the families of the victims.

Their legal beneficiaries, including widows and children, will also be formally integrated into the regular support programs reserved for families of National Police personnel.

This ensures continued access to institutional aid and long-term social support beyond the immediate aftermath of the tragedy.

These administrative incentives and additional social services build on the immediate measures ordered by Hammouchi following the accident, including full medical coverage for all injured officers and direct condolences and support extended to the bereaved families.
