Moroccan international Sofiane Boufal has expressed his desire to return to the Atlas Lions squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup, following his recent return to form with Le Havre AC.
In a recent interview with Foot Mercato, Boufal spoke openly about his ambition to once again represent Morocco on football’s biggest stage.
“As professional footballers, we all aspire to play in the biggest international tournaments. Today, I’m playing in a competitive league,” Boufal said. “I’m lucky enough to string together matches without any injuries. So it’s only natural that people are talking about me for this World Cup. I would be the happiest man alive if this World Cup comes my way.”
The 32-year-old winger has registered one goal and three assists in 16 appearances for Le Havre this season, performances that have reignited discussions over a possible return to the Moroccan national team.
Boufal remains one of the key figures behind Morocco’s historic run at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where the Atlas Lions became the first African and Arab nation to reach the semi-finals. Alongside Hakim Ziyech, Boufal formed one of the tournament’s most entertaining attacking partnerships, earning praise from football fans around the world.
With 46 international caps to his name, the former Southampton FC player hopes his recent performances can help him secure a place in Morocco’s squad for the upcoming tournament.
