Rabat – Lille fans have made an emotional plea to Moroccan international Ayyoub Bouaddi to remain with the French club, as speculation over a potential move to Manchester City continues to grow.
The 18-year-old midfielder is enjoying a remarkable summer after attracting interest from several of Europe’s biggest clubs. Manchester City, however, have reportedly moved ahead in the race and are believed to be nearing an agreement with Lille for his transfer.
According to Footmercato, the deal could be worth €100 million or more, with Lille demanding a significant fee for one of the most promising talents to emerge from the club’s academy in recent years.
Despite the growing possibility of Bouaddi’s departure, Lille supporters are still hoping to convince the young midfielder to stay.
During a fan signing event on Wednesday, Bouaddi spent around 45 minutes signing autographs and taking pictures with supporters. Several fans used the occasion to send him a direct message, chanting phrases such as “Bouaddi in Lille” and “Ayyoub, stay.”
The emotional appeal reflects Bouaddi’s strong connection with Lille. He came through the club’s academy before breaking into the first team at a young age and establishing himself as one of the most highly rated young midfielders in European football.
However, the supporters’ wishes could clash with Bouaddi’s ambitions and Manchester City’s plans. The Premier League champions reportedly see the Moroccan as an important part of their plans to strengthen and reshape their midfield.
With negotiations reportedly progressing, Lille fans may have little time left to persuade their academy graduate to continue his journey in France.
