Rabat – Morocco has awarded a new MAD 1.265 billion ($126.5 million) contract to Moroccan company Lamalif, which will work to upgrade the Marrakech Grand Stadium as part of the fourth phase of its renovation.
The project, which is part of the country’s preparations to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, is expected to take 18 months to complete.
The latest phase focuses on upgrading the stadium’s technical infrastructure and installing systems designed to meet the requirements of major international sporting events.
Electrical and digital infrastructure
The project includes extensive work on the stadium’s electrical infrastructure, including electrical installations, specialized stadium lighting, generators, and power transformers.
These upgrades are intended to strengthen the stadium’s technical capacity and ensure the reliable operation of its different facilities during matches and other major events.
The renovation will also expand the stadium’s digital infrastructure. Different areas of the facility will be connected to information and telecommunications networks, while high-speed Wi-Fi will be installed to meet the connectivity needs of spectators, staff, media, and event organizers.
Security and fan management
Security systems are another major component of the project.
The work includes the installation of advanced video surveillance cameras and access-control systems. These technologies will be used to monitor the stadium and manage the movement of spectators across different areas of the facility.
The upgrades are part of broader efforts to bring the stadium’s security infrastructure in line with the standards expected for major international competitions.
New audiovisual systems
The renovation will also introduce new audiovisual equipment.
The stadium is expected to receive LED screens and LED ribbons, alongside dedicated sound systems designed to support safety announcements and communication with spectators.
The conference room will also be equipped to meet the requirements of media organizations covering matches and other sporting events.
Another key addition will be a centralized technical management system, known as GTC. The system will allow operators to monitor and manage different technical installations across the stadium through a centralized electronic platform.
Morocco’s 2030 Preparations
The latest contract forms part of Morocco’s wider program to modernize its sports infrastructure ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which the country will co-host with Spain and Portugal.
The Marrakech Grand Stadium is among the major Moroccan sports venues undergoing upgrades as the country prepares to welcome international football competitions.
The new works are expected to improve the stadium’s technical capabilities and overall readiness, while also supporting its use for international sporting events beyond the 2030 World Cup.
