Agadir – Royal Air Maroc (RAM) will gradually equip 41 of its aircraft with Starlink high-speed Wi-Fi starting in early 2027, offering free access to members of its Safar Flyer loyalty program.
The national carrier announced the move today, describing the partnership with Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite internet service, as part of its broader efforts to modernize the passenger experience.
RAM said the deployment will make it the first African airline to offer Starlink connectivity onboard its aircraft.
“Royal Air Maroc has selected Starlink to bring next-generation inflight Wi-Fi to our passengers, making us the first African airline to offer Starlink connectivity onboard,” RAM stated.
The rollout will take place in stages to maintain operational continuity. Once installed, the system will allow passengers to access high-speed internet during flights, including for streaming, online communication, and work.
The service will use Starlink’s low-Earth-orbit satellite network, which is designed to provide high-speed, low-latency internet connectivity. The technology is already used by airlines in other markets, including Air France and the Lufthansa Group.
“Soon, passengers and crew onboard Royal Air Maroc will have access to Starlink, the same high-speed, low-latency internet that is already transforming travel on other continents. From Casablanca to the rest of Africa and beyond, travelers will enjoy reliable internet in flight,” Starlink said, commenting on the announcement.
RAM explained that the project is part of the company’s broader multi-year plan, which includes fleet renewal and cabin refurbishment.
The new service is expected to provide passengers with greater access to digital services during flights, particularly those who need to communicate or work while traveling.
The Starlink rollout comes as RAM continues to expand and modernize its fleet. The airline has increased its fleet significantly in recent years, reporting more than 70 aircraft by the end of September.
By equipping 41 aircraft with Starlink, RAM plans to make onboard connectivity a more prominent part of its passenger offering as it continues its broader fleet and service modernization program.
