Rabat – Police officers in Tangier arrested a 47-year-old Omani national on Thursday, October 8, after discovering that he was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by Omani judicial authorities.
The suspect was flagged during a check against Morocco’s national security databases.
According to Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), he was also listed by the Arab Interior Ministers Council’s Criminal Investigation and Data Department at the request of Omani authorities.
The man is wanted in connection with alleged financial and economic crimes, the DGSN said.
Moroccan authorities have placed the suspect under extradition proceedings following instructions from the competent public prosecutor’s office.
The DGSN’s Arab Liaison Division has also notified its counterpart in Oman of the arrest as part of the extradition process.
The arrest reflects Morocco’s cooperation with Arab and international security partners in tracking and apprehending individuals wanted in connection with cross-border crimes, according to the DGSN.
Morocco has continued to expand its cooperation with foreign law enforcement agencies to address the growing challenges posed by transnational crime.
The country’s security services maintain channels of coordination with international and regional partners to exchange information on individuals wanted in criminal cases and to support investigations that extend across national borders.
Such cooperation is particularly relevant in cases involving financial and economic offenses, where suspects, assets, and criminal networks can operate across several jurisdictions.
Through these mechanisms, Moroccan authorities can respond to international alerts while supporting judicial procedures initiated by partner countries.
