Rabat – Following an excellent run at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and a good start at the Ligue 1 season with Olympique de Marseille (OM), two Saudi clubs are reportedly interested in signing the Moroccan international services.
These clubs include Al Hilal, which recently signed Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, and Al Ahly, according to the French sports outlets FootMercato and L’Equipe.
In particular, L’Equipe stated that the Atlas Lion would not decline a possible transfer to the Saudi Pro League.
With both Al Hilal and Al Ahli reportedly willing to pay 20 million euros to sign Ounahi, sources told L’Equipe, OM are ready to sell their Moroccan midfielder in order to replenish their coffers in the wake of their early elimination from the Champions League playoffs.
Ounahi is one of the players who gave OM fans a lot of hope ahead of the start of this season. Aged 23, the creative, versatile midfielder was one of the stars of last winter transfer window thanks to his dazzling performances during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
While many elite European clubs were reported to be in talks with Angers to sign the Moroccan midfielder, OM ended up being the player’s destination who came out on top, offering Angers a cheque for 10 million euros plus a percentage of 30% on resale.
On his arrival, Ounahi immediately made his mark with a fine goal against Nantes on his first appearance for OM in February. Unfortunately, his 2022-23 season came to an end in March due to a knee injury.
Ounahi’s return this summer understandably raised a lot of expectations. However, since Marcelino took over as Marseille’s coach, the Moroccan international has been playing on the left wing, which is not the right position for a player of his profile.
Meanwhile, FootMercato has also reported that, in addition to Ounahi’s potential transfer to the Saudi league, OM’s president Pablo Longoria is intending to sell the midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, to replenish the club’s struggling coffers.
