Rabat – Morocco’s Royal Football Confederation (FRMF) held, on May 25 in Sale, a meeting about the taxation on sports companies and social security for players.
During the meeting, the FRMF hopes to advise club officials on how players may benefit from the National Social Security Fund’s services (CNSS) and how to collect taxes.
President of FRMF Faouzi Lakjaa explained, “The objective of this meeting is to discuss the subject of taxes on sports companies and membership in the CNSS to ensure a decent life for all components of all the family of national football, players, technical staff, and medical staff.”
The FRMF will implement the reform in the upcoming weeks, which will guarantee for the players and their families a source of income at the end of the athlete’s career.
“In the light of the institutional changes that football witnesses, particularly the creation of sports companies, the Moroccan football family is called upon to engage in the coming weeks in the implementation of legal texts relating to tax declarations, which will allow the practice of football to move from informal to formal status, governed by precise standards,” Lakjaa added.
The official also noted that Moroccan football will willingly commit to the CNSS project as part of the new social security project launched by King Mohammed VI.
The establishment of sports companies is only part of the institutional framework of national football, including the transformation of clubs into companies and the generalization of social insurance, to lay the foundations of a professional culture based on the general interest and the strategic objectives set, he noted.
The Director-General of CNSS, Hassan Boubrik, Director-General of the General Department of Taxation (DGI) Khalid Zazou, presidents, and representatives of national football clubs all attended the meeting.
Hassan Boubrik emphasized the importance of the new social security project in Morocco which will generalize social insurance for all Moroccans.
After the decision to transform clubs into sports companies, the Director-General of DGI Khalid Zazou, stated that the companies were exempt from corporate tax for five consecutive years, starting from the first operating year.
Law 30-09 governs the transformation of professional football clubs into sports companies, relating to physical education and sports. It was published in the official gazette in 2010, but not implemented until May 2016.
