Rabat – Moroccan international football player Achraf Hakimi was ranked the best right-back in ESPN’s latest ranking of the world’s best footballers.
It has been six years since ESPN has started compiling its list of the world’s 100 best players in 2016. The American press divides the ranking into Top 10s for each position on the field.
Achraf Hakimi was ranked first among ten international players for the right-back position. This year, the Moroccan international outperformed England international and Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold, who had taken top spot in last year’s rankings.
The fact that Hakimi was not even ranked in ESPN’s 2019 compilation shows his amazing growth. Over the past years, the Moroccan international has established himself as one of the most identifiable players in his position.
It is nothing short of a triumph to be ranked ahead of players like Joao Cancelo (Manchester City), Reece James (Chelsea), Kyle Walker (Manchester City), and Jesus Navas (Sevilla).
ESPN said of the Moroccan’s stunning performance that he “was an uncontainable presence, causing a constant attacking threat with his strong running and winger-esque dribbling skills.”

“Hakimi has made the biggest impact of PSG’s high-profile summer arrivals,” noted the America outlet on the force the Moroccan brought to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), scoring two goals with one 95th-minute winner.
After leaving Real Madrid for a two-year loan in the summer of 2018, Hakimi shone at Borussia Dortmund, scoring six goals and providing six assists. Hakimi eventually joined Inter Milan and quickly proved himself as a key player for the Milan squad.
Hakimi’s progress has been making international headlines.The 22-year-old signed a -year contract this summer with French giant Paris Saint-Germain. The deal will pay the Serie A side up to €70 million, including bonuses, for the former Real Madrid player.
The Paris Saint-Germain right-back has also been in stellar form for Morocco’s Atlas Lions.
