Rabat – Moroccan police have arrested eight individuals in Meknes for preparing food from expired products before distributing them in the market.
The suspects also stored products under conditions that might harm public health, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) tweeted on Tuesday.
The anti-gang squad arrested on Tuesday a company manager and seven of his assistants, according to the tweet.
Along with the tweet, DGSN attached pictures of the storage conditions and expired products such as milk powder.
One picture showed the label of an expired 25 kilograms of milk powder. The expiration date on the label said the milk should have been consumed by September 17, 2021.

Earlier this month, Morocco’s Food Safety Office (ONSSA) withdrew Kinder surprise products from the national market with expiration dates ranging from the end of June 2022 to the end of October 2022. The batches were suspected to contain Salmonella bacteria. The bacteria causes fever, diarrhea, and stomach cramps.
ONSSA’s measures responded to the recording of 63 salmonella cases related to Kinder chocolate in the United Kingdom.
Following the Kinder surprise case, Tangier police seized two tonnes of unhygienic white meat in collaboration with ONSSA. The registered violation resulted in the seizure of two unauthorized refrigerated cars as well as the arrest of three individuals for being involved in the criminal activity.
Through these operations, ONSSA works on protecting public health and controlling the quality of food available in Moroccan markets.
The office also launches special operations ahead of special occasions such as Ramadan and Eid Al-Adha to meet the rising food demands while maintaining the hygienic distribution and storage of needed products.
