Rabat – The president of Morocco’s Royal Football Federation (FRMF) has announced that the results of the investigation into the irregularities that surrounded the sales of the Qatar World Cup 2022 in Morocco will be out “very soon,” revealing the federation’s determination to “end the career” of those responsible for the tickets fiasco.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Lekjaa stressed that the Moroccan football federation will take severe measures against any individuals who were involved in the tickets scandal.

As Morocco’s national team was advancing to the quarter-final of the Qatar FIFA World Cup, fans protested online about the difficulties they faced in finding tickets.

Reports later suggested that a Moroccan politician might have been involved in what was described as “tickets disappearing” ahead of Morocco’s semifinal game with France.

The “disappearance of tickets” came a few days after Morocco’s football federation pledged to give away 13,000 free tickets for fans to attend the game against France.

Addressing the press, Lekjaa added that the disciplinary measures taken against individuals involved in the tickets scandal will also be announced soon. But he revealed that FRMF will bring the sports career of the culprits to an end.

Morocco’s police department first opened an investigation into the disappearance of tickets in December 2022. According to Moroccan newspaper Assabah, among the people police interrogated during the investigation was MP Mohammed El Hidaoui.

A senior member of Morocco’s Football Federation board, El Hidaoui was reportedly linked to the case in the days leading to Morocco’s semifinal match against France.

The case led to widespread frustration among Moroccan fans who flew to Qatar but were unable to get tickets as they were distributed under “suspicious” circumstances or sold at extremely high prices, reports suggest.

As frustration mounted after news emerged of the scandal, many disgruntled Moroccans, especially those who traveled to Qatar to watch the Atlas Lions,  took to social media to express their shock and dismay at the lack of tickets despite the FRMF’s pledge to make them available.
