Rabat – The Tangier Med port’s director, Kamal Lakhmas, confirmed on Monday that the port is ready to receive Moroccans living abroad as part of the 2023 Marhaba Operation.
“Tangier Med Port is ready to welcome and accompany Moroccans from all over the world as part of the 2023 Marhaba operation,” Kamal Lakhmas said in a statement to MAP and its streaming news channel M24.
He highlighted that “a budget of MAD 80 million ($7.9 million) has been allocated to improve the port infrastructure and the services provided for travelers.”
The official further noted that a marine fleet has been provided to transport about 40,000 passengers and 10,000 vehicles per day.
The port administration is working in cooperation with all stakeholders, under the supervision of the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, in order to make the 2023 Marhaba Operation a success, and to ensure a smooth transit across the port, Lakhmas explained.
In implementation of instructions from King Mohammed VI, Abdallah Omar Moussa, who is in charge of the medical and humanitarian pole at the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, indicated that the operation was launched on the eve of Sunday to last for a period of three and a half months.
Moussa indicated that the Foundation worked to mobilize all parties, as well as its logistical and human resources so as to carry out this operation successfully.
In particular, Moussa mentioned that the Foundation mobilized more than 1,400 people from its teams, social assistants, doctors, paramedical staff, and volunteers to listen to the requirements of Moroccans living abroad and provide them with the necessary support and aid.
He stressed the significant contribution of each of the Ministry of Health, local and port authorities, and airport administrations, which have intensified their efforts to welcome Moroccans of the world and accompany them in the various phases of their journey to their homeland.

He further highlighted that the Foundation has operated 24 spaces inside and outside Morocco to receive and accompany Moroccan expats residing abroad during transit and return to and from Morocco throughout the Marhaba operation.
Moussa went on to explain that 18 spaces have been operated in each of the ports of Tangier Med, Tangier Medina, Al Hoceima, Nador, the crossings of Ceuta’s and Melilla’s gates, and the national airports.
Meanwhile, there are six Marhaba reception centers outside Morocco, namely ports of Almeria, Algeciras, and Motril in Spain, Sete and Marseille in France, as well as Genoa in Italy.
