The Moroccan international signed a five-year contract with the Spanish club on Saturday, keeping him in Catalonia until June 2030.

Ounahi, 25, returns to Spain after spending last season on loan at Panathinaikos in Greece, where he regained form and consistency. The midfielder became a key figure in Athens, using the spell to revive a career that had stalled at Marseille.

Although a return to Panathinaikos was widely discussed, Girona secured his signature as they continue to strengthen under manager Míchel Sánchez.

“Girona FC and Olympique de Marseille have reached an agreement for the transfer of Azzedine Ounahi, who becomes the new red and white player. The Moroccan midfielder signs a five-year contract, until June 30, 2030, and joins the project led by Míchel Sánchez to strengthen the team’s midfield,” the club confirmed.
