Rabat – The provincial directorates of the Ministry of National Education, in Essaouira and Agadir Ida-Outanane have announced the suspension of classes on Friday and Saturday across all public and private educational institutions.
The decision was made as a precautionary measure due to deteriorating weather conditions in the region.
According to official statements, the decision follows the latest weather alert issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) and forms part of preventive measures aimed at ensuring the safety of students as well as teaching and administrative staff.
The two directorates said the suspension was taken in line with the recommendations of the provincial monitoring units, in close coordination with local authorities and other relevant stakeholders.
Morocco’s weather service has placed several provinces under a red-level alert, warning of very heavy rainfall, particularly in mountainous areas.Â
Expected precipitation levels range between 80 and 120 millimeters in Agadir Ida-Outanane, Taroudant, and Essaouira.
The alert is set to remain in effect from Friday at 5 p.m. until Saturday at 6 p.m., prompting authorities to implement precautionary measures to reduce weather-related risks.
In recent weeks, Morocco has experienced a succession of unstable weather patterns, marked by recurring alerts issued by national meteorological authorities across several regions.Â
Episodes of heavy rainfall, strong winds, and sudden temperature shifts have prompted local authorities to activate preventive measures and monitoring mechanisms.Â
Citizens are urged to remain cautious, limit unnecessary travel during adverse conditions, and follow official guidance, as weather disturbances are expected to continue affecting different parts of the country in the coming days.
