Following his amazing performance in the World Cup, Real Madrid are pushing for an agreement with the Spain midfielder Rodri, according to Madrid Xtra.
Real Madrid already have Rodri’s approval and the parties are said to be contractually close, according to the same source
Sports journalist Matteo Moretto said Florentino Pérez, who was previously unwilling to pursue Rodri’s move at current conditions, is now showing himself much more open to the possibility of signing him.
Real Madrid shift focus to Rodri
Perez had initially hoped to strengthen the attacking department this summer, but failed attempts to sign both Olise and Alvarez have prompted a change in strategy.
That has placed Rodri at the top of Real Madrid’s shortlist following an outstanding campaign that culminated in the Spain international being named the Best Player at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 30-year-old has reportedly made himself available for a move to the Santiago Bernabéu, encouraging Madrid as they prepare their next steps.
Rodri’s stellar record as a player in the PL
Rodri joined Manchester City from Atletico Madrid in 2019 in a £70m deal, and remains under contract with the club until 2027.
During his journey in the Premier League, Rodri scored 28 goals and made 32 assists in 298 appearances, helping City win an extraordinary collection of trophies and establishing himself as one of the key players in Premier League history.
His honours include four Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, three Carabao Cups, two FA Cups and the FA Community Shield. On the international stage, Rodri has also lifted the FIFA World Cup, the UEFA European Championship and the UEFA Nations League with Spain, in addition to winning the Ballon d’Or.
