Morocco to Recruit Over 1,000 Medical Staff to Contain COVID-19 Pandemic

Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Health has launched a recruitment contest for over 1,000 medical staff, including 299 doctors, to strengthen the country’s health sector in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The contest, announced today, April 23, will take place in Rabat between May 14-21 for doctors and between May 14-29 for the remaining staff.

Applications are open on the ministry’s website, www.sante.gov.ma, until May 11 at 4:30 p.m.

The application’s requirements include having Moroccan nationality and being less than 45 years old, along with other academic and professional prerequisites.

In addition to doctors, the Ministry of Health is recruiting 852 medical and paramedical staff, including 357 nurses, 271 midwives, 98 technicians, 95 physiotherapists, and 31 social assistants.

One-quarter of the available positions are officially reserved for any surviving resistance fighters and other military veterans, while 7% of the jobs are reserved for applicants with special needs.

The recruitment contest will take place over two weeks in order to avoid crowding during the tests, maintain social distancing, and follow the necessary precautionary measures against COVID-19.

The recruitment of doctors and medical staff comes as Morocco continues its fight to curb the spread of COVID-19. The country is upgrading its existing medical infrastructure and building new field hospitals to alleviate the pressure on other medical facilities.

The hiring of more staff would significantly reduce the strain on people who have already been on the frontlines of the fight against COVID-19 for nearly two months.

The new recruitment process will benefit from the budget of other recruitment contests that were canceled due to the coronavirus crisis.

On March 25, the Moroccan government reported it would suspend all promotions and recruitment contests under this year’s state budget to maximize the financial resources for fighting the pandemic.

The suspension of promotions and recruitment excludes civil servants and officials in charge of national security, as well as those working in the health department.
