Rabat – Two of Morocco’s pro-Palestinian NGOs have joined the list of campaigners calling for protests against US President Donald Trump’s decision to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. A “one million” person march will be organized on December 10 in Rabat.

As the world is breaking into protests against Trump’s decision, the National Group for Palestine (NGP) and the Moroccan Association for the Support of the Palestinian Cause (MASPC) are calling for citizens to take to the streets of Rabat on Saturday to protest against Trump.

The march is scheduled at 10 a.m, starting at Bab El Had and moving to the Parliament.

“We call on all the Moroccan people and their political, trade union, legal, and social forces to participate in the march,” reads a statement from the two NGOs.

Members from Morocco’s political parties, including the Party of Justice and Development, the Istiqlal Party, and the Party of Progress and Socialism, are expected to participate.

“This is one of the most dangerous decisions made against the Arab Ummah, both Muslim and Christian,” MASPC President Khalid Sefiani told Telquel.

The two associations organizing the march said they want to see “a million people” participate in the event.

The march will be preceded by a sit-ins on Thursday, December 7.

US Embassy Calls for Vigilance

The US embassy in Rabat has called its citizens to be “cautious,” as Trump’s decision “could trigger demonstrations [in Morocco], some of which could become violent,” it warns.

A press release published Wednesday evening on the embassy’s website calls on Americans in the kingdom to “maintain a high level of vigilance, and take appropriate measures to enhance their personal security and follow instructions of local authorities.”

“The US Mission Morocco reminds US citizens of the need for caution and awareness of personal security.” The embassy is also advising its citizens to “avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.”
