Rabat – The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) forecasts a new heatwave, with temperatures up to 47 degrees Celsius.
The weather alert said temperatures will range between 44 and 47 degrees from Friday to Sunday in the provinces and prefectures of Taroudant, Zagora, Tata, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Boujdour, Oued Ed-Dahab, and Aousserd.
Temperatures between 42 and 44 degrees are expected during the same days in the provinces of Beni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, and El Kelaa Sraghna.
Thunderstorms will bring 20 to 30 millimeters of rainfall, as well as possible hail and strong winds, in the provinces of Khenifra, Boulemane, Figuig, Ifrane, and Midelt from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m today.
Hot weather, with temperatures exceeding 45 degrees, is usual and normal in the central and southern provinces.
Coastal cities, including Rabat, have been witnessing frequent heatwaves recently.
The first week of July and the last few weeks of June witnessed increased temperatures, with Moroccan weather authorities warning against outdoor activities and exposure to the sun.
