Taroudant – Morocco pines all its hope on the big emerging markets to achieve its tourism ambitions listed under the “2020 Vision.”
To boost the tourism sector and to open up to new markets, the kingdom has high hopes investing on the large emerging markets of Turkey and Brazil, and plans to establish direct flights to China in 2015.
Lahcen Haddad, Moroccan Minister of Tourism, said that the Moroccan National Office of Tourism (MNOT) is studying the possibility of opening a branch office in Turkey this year.
“Morocco, which met the challenge of 10 million visitors in 2013 for the first time, retains the ambition to reach 20 million tourists by 2020,” the minister was by Agence France Press as saying.
He also added that 2013 is only “the beginning of a take-off” for reaching the 20 million tourists challenge by 2020.
In a statement to the Maghreb Arab Press (MAP), Haddad said that Morocco is now recognized as the first destination for Arab tourists, which was proven by the increased frequency of flights between Morocco and several countries in the Gulf region.
While Morocco is traditionally perceived as a leisure touristic destination, the country also welcomes financiers and stakeholders to invest in the tourism sector. This is in addition to the government allocating more funds to the Ministry of Tourism in order to improve infrastructures in the Kingdom’s main cities.
Though the “2020 Vission” is an ambitious plan, the kingdom aims at ranking among the top 20 tourist destinations in the world.
